September 10 and 17, 2016 (Sebastopol)
“I’m excited to announce the May women’s self-defense class of 2016 has been scheduled! This is an adult class, however, teens age 16 -17 are welcome to participate with signed parental permission. This class (like all my classes) includes simple, easy to learn, powerful and affective, physical self-defense techniques that can be used in a wide range of real-life situations. The class also includes verbal self-defense: you will learn how to use your voice in a strong and powerful way to defend yourself and prevent an assault from escalating. In addition, we will practice assertiveness skills that can be used to set limits (aka “Boundaries”) and stand up for ourselves in a wide range of situations and communicate in a clear and direct manner with friends or family members, neighbors or co-workers, as well as strangers. Other topics will be addressed such as the psychology of the attacker and the psychological dynamics of an assault, including sexual assault, dating and domestic violence and sexual harassment. I include real-life success stories to highlight certain self-defense strategies. These stories are inspiring and encouraging and help us to believe, “If she can do it, so can I!” Feel free to click on “Download” to copy and print the flyer below (in pdf format) and post at school or work or hand out to friends.”
